Aquí os dejamos traducida al español, y en inglés, la carta que le entregaron y que han publicado en su página web, a modo de explicación de por qué echan a Tarja del grupo. La noticia ha dejado boquiabierta a mucha gente…

Aún así, el grupo deja claro que este no es el fin de Nightwish, sino que buscarán una nueva cantante.

“Querida Tarja:

Es hora de elegir si la historia de Nightwish termina aquí, o sigue durante un periodo indeterminado de tiempo. Hemos estado trabajando en esta creación durante nueve años, y no estamos todavía preparados para dejarlo. Nightwish es una forma de vida, algo por lo que vivir, y realmente no podemos dejarlo.

Tambien es cierto el hecho de que no podemos continuar contigo y con Marcelo (ndt: el marido de Tarja). Durante el último año algo triste ha pasado, algo que ha estado rondando mi cabeza cada día, mañana y noche. Tu actitud y comportamiento ya no van con Nightwish. Hay ciertas cosas que nunca hubiese creído llegar a ver en mi querida vieja amiga.

La gente que no se habla durante un año no puede pertenecer al mismo grupo.

Estamos en una industria donde la parte del negocio de las cosas es un mal necesario, y algo de lo que preocuparse constantemente. Tambien somos un grupo que siempre ha hecho música desde el corazón, por la amistad y por la música en sí misma. ¡La satisfacción mental debería ser siempre más importante que el dinero! Nightwish es un grupo, es una emoción.

Para ti, desafortunadamente, el negocio, el dinero, y cosas que no tienen nada que ver con esas emociones se han vuelto mucho más importantes. Sientes que te has sacrificado a ti misma y a tu carrera musical por Nightwish, en vez de pensar lo que esto te ha dado. Esta actitud me la dejaste claras en dos cosas que me dijiste en el vuelo a Toronto: “No necesito más a Nightwish” y “Recuerda, Tuomas, que puedo dejar el grupo en cualquier momento, avisando con sólo un día de adelanto”. Sencillamente, ya no puedo escribir más canciones para que las cantes tú.

Te has dicho a ti misma que eres solamente un “músico invitado” en Nightwish. Ahora esa visita termina, y nosotros continuaremos con Nightwsih con una nueva voz femenina. Estamos seguros que esto es igualmente un gran alivio para ti como para nosotros. Nos hemos estado sintiendo mal demasiado tiempo.

Nos dijiste que no importaba lo que pasara, el próximo disco de Nightwish sería el último tuyo. Sin embargo, el resto de nosotros desea continuar mientras la llama arda. Así que no tiene sentido hacer el próximo disco contigo tampoco. Nosotros cuatro hemos aguantado esta situación mucho tiempo, y nos hemos dado cuenta de que es lo que queremos hacer en la vida. Es todo lo que podemos hacer. En diciembre de 2004, en Alemania, dijiste que no volverías a ir de gira durante más de dos semanas seguidas. También dijiste que nos podíamos olvidar de EEUU y Australia por que tanto lo que pagaban como el tamaño de los locales eran demasiado pequeños.

En algunas entrevistas dije que si Tarja lo dejaba, ese sería el fin del grupo. Entiendo que la gente crea eso. Nightwish es, sin embargo, un paisaje de mi alma y no estoy dispuesto a dejarlo sólo por una persona. Una persona que quiere centrar su creatividad en otro lugar, una persona cuyos valores no encajan con los míos.

Nunca nos molestó el hecho de que no participaras en la composición y arreglos de las canciones; en nueve años nunca viniste a ensayar las canciones antes de ir al studio. Ni el hecho de que durante las giras quisieses volar sin nosotros, con tu marido. Ni el hecho de que fueses la indiscutible imagen del grupo. Aceptábamos todo, salvo avariciar e infravalorar a los fans, y romper promesas. Fue un acuerdo de los cinco que Nightwish sería la prioridad de todos durante el 2004 y 2005. Aún así, muchas cosas eran más importantes para tí. El ultimo ejemplo fue en el concierto de Oslo, donde se vendieron todas las entradas, y que tú quisiste cancelar por que necesitabas ensayar para tus conciertos en solitario, ver a tus amigos e ir a ver películas. Esas fueron las palabras que utilizó Marcelo en un email, explicando la cancelación. Ese fue solo un ejemplo de tantos. No puedo imaginar una forma peor de ser egoíste y de rechazar a nuestros fans.

Nightwish es un modo de vida y un trabajo con muchas obligaciones. Para con cada uno, y para con los fans. Contigo no podemos encargarnos más de esas obligaciones.

Desde lo más profundo no sabemos cual de los dos llevó esto a este punto. De alguna forma, Marcelo te ha transformado, de ser la adorable chica que eras a una diva, que no piensa ni actúa como solía hacer. Estás demasiado segura de ser irremplazable, y de tu estatus.

Es obvio que nos culpas de tu estrés y tu sufrimiento. Y crees que no te respetamos ni escuchamos. Creenos: siempre te hemos tenido el más alto respeto, como maravillosa vocalista y como amiga. Y demasiado a menudo en estos últimos dos años los planes se hacían de acuerdo sólo con tus decisiones. Eras siempre la única que quería más dinero por los conciertos.

¡Esta actitud de “compensación y más dinero por todo” es lo que más nos molesta a todos!

Deseamos que desde ahora escuches a tú corazón en lugar de a Marcelo. Las diferencias culturales convinadas con la avaricia, el oportunismo y el amor son una combinación peligrosa. No te atrofies a ti misma.

Esta decision no es algo de lo que estemos demasiado orgullosos, pero no nos has dado otra opción. El vacío entre nosotros es demasiado ancho. Y la decisión ha sido tomada de forma unánime. Hemos traspasado el punto en el cual las cosas pueden solucionarse hablando.

Te deseamos lo mejor en tu vida y tu carrera.

"Dear Tarja,

It`s time to choose whether the story of Nightwish ends here or whether it will still continue an undetermined period of time. We've been working with this creation for 9 years and we are not ready to give up yet. Nightwish is a way of life, something to live for, and we're certain we can`t let it go.

Equally certain is the fact that we cannot go on with you and Marcelo any longer. During the last year something sad happened, which I`ve been going over in my head every single day, morning and night. Your attitude and behavior don`t go with Nightwish anymore. There are characteristics I would never have believed to see in my old dear friend.

People who don`t talk with each other for a year do not belong in the same band.

We are involved in an industry where the business-side of things is a necessary evil and something to worry about all the time. We are also a band which has always done music from the heart, because of friendship and the music itself. The mental satisfaction should always be more important than money! Nightwish is a band, it`s an emotion.

To you, unfortunately, business, money, and things that have nothing to do with those emotions have become much more important. You feel that you have sacrificed yourself and your musical career for Nightwish, rather than thinking what it has given to you. This attitude was clearly shown to me in the two things you said to me in an airplane in Toronto: 'I don`t need Nightwish anymore.' and 'Remember, Tuomas, that I could leave this band at any time, giving you only one day`s warning in advance.' I can`t simply write any more songs for you to sing.

You have said yourself that you are merely a ”guest musician” in Nightwish. Now that visit ends and we will continue Nightwish with a new female vocalist. We're sure this is an equally big relief to you as it is for us. We have all been feeling bad long enough.

You told us that no matter what, the next Nightwish album will be your last one. However, the rest of us want to continue as long as the fire burns. So there's no sense in doing that next album with you, either. The four of us have been going over this situation countless times and we have realized that this is the thing we want to do in life. It´s all we can do. In December 2004, in Germany, you said that you will never tour again for more than two weeks at a time. You also said that we can forget about U.S. and Australia because the fees and the sizes of venues are too small.

In interviews I've mentioned that if Tarja leaves, that would be the end of the band. I understand that people will think this way. Nightwish is, however, a scenery of my soul and I'm not ready to let go because of one person. A person who wants to focus her creativity to somewhere else, a person whose values don`t match mine.

We were never bothered by the fact that you didn`t participate in writing/arranging songs, you never in 9 years came to rehearse the songs with us before going to the studio. Not the fact that while on tour you always wanted to fly, separately from us with your husband. Not the fact that you are an undisputable front image of the band. We accepted and felt OK about everything except greed, underestimating the fans, and breaking promises. It was agreed by the five of us that Nightwish would be the priority in everything that we do during 2004-2005. Still so many things were more important to you. The ultimate example being the already sold-out show in Oslo, which you wanted to cancel because you needed to rehearse for your solo concerts, meet frieds and go to the movies. Those were the words Marcelo used in an e-mail explaining the cancellation. This being just one example of so many. I couldn`t think of a worse way of being selfish and dismissing our fans.

Nightwish is a way of life and a job with many obligations. To each other and to the fans. With you we can`t take care of those duties anymore.

Deep within we don`t know which one of you drove us to this point. Somehow Marcelo has changed you from the lovely girl you were into a diva, who doesn`t think or act the way she used to. You are too sure of your irreplaceableness and status.

It`s obvious that you blame your stress and misery on us four. And you think we don`t respect or listen to you. Belive us; We have always had the uppermost respect towards you as a wonderful vocalist and as a friend. And very often during the past couple of years the plans were made according to your decisions only. You were always the only one who wanted more money from the shows.

This ”compensation and more money from everything” –attitude is the fact that we are most disappointed of!

We wish that from now on you will listen to your heart instead of Marcelo. Cultural differences combined with greed, opportunism and love is a dangerous combination. Do not wither yourself.

This decision is not something we are especially proud of but you gave us no choice. The gap between us is too wide. And the decision is made by us four unanimously. We are beyond the point where things could be settled by talking.
